I bought 3 of these as gifts for friends who just hated the upkeep required for a windows computer.Only a small learning curve was required for each of them to have it up and running, keeping in mind that all they do is email, browsing and Facebook type stuff.They are not computer literate and don't want to be.Each likes the virtual instant on and large sharp screen surface.

Two minor cons:

You have to sign in every time you turn it on.

Setting up a cloud capable printer was a pain as I had to do it for them.Once set up though, printing was fine.

Just keep in mind that this is NOT a windows computer.It uses the Google chrome operating system built around the Google browser.It is hard to beat for someone who simply wants to do email and use an internet browser.

As expected, this item from LG is essentially a big Chromebook that is plugged in and with which one uses a full-size keyboard and mouse.As far as that goes, it's awesome.Why do I deduct one star? The speakers are terrible and there is a strange glitch whereby the screen buzzes or whines when you use a USB mouse.

Yes, I did notice that the unit has both on-screen and keyboard volume controls... but even maxed out, they just don't do much.So, unless sound is not that important to you, or you plan to hook some powered speakers up to your Chromebase, you might want to try a different product.I don't know what LG was thinking. My old HP Chromebook has terrific sound- did LG really save more than a few dollars using these tinny, muffled speakers? They had more space and more power to work with compared to a laptop. Come on guys! An ipad sounds much louder and its speaker is the size of aspirin.

As for the mouse glitch, a very smart previous reviewer shared this problem and his solution (an inexpensive wireless mouse) so I just bought a $15 mouse the day I got my Chromebase.

Great, bright screen.Processor is fine.Included keyboard is very nice.

UPDATE: After more than a year of use, I will say I am less satisfied with this product.In addition to the speaker/buzz issues, I have noticed other minor glitches, not seen on my other Chrome devices.The system sometimes "blinks" out while I'm using it as if you momentarily switched it off.Also, the wireless hardware is spotty.I have a solid connection for a few weeks, than it disconnects twice in one day for no apparent reason.Note, the issue occurs while other devices in the house are connected without trouble.

If I was looking for a Chromebase (good idea) I would NOT consider an LG again.

This Chromebase is very lightweight, literally and figuratively speaking.It runs Google Chrome, and has little hardware.15 months later, it is still the most used computer in our home.We have a Windows 10 touchscreen computer and a Windows 10 laptop, but this Chromebase is most popular.It's so fast!It's also light enough that we take it with us on vacation.It's lighter than the laptop (but doesn't have a battery power source, of course).This laptop is perfect for nearly everything we do online, which is most of our computer needs.

The only downside is that the switch to toggle between ChromeOS mode and display mode (where the unit could be used as a monitor for some other video source) is right next to the power switch, so he sometimes inadvertently changes that and gets confused.
